What have I done...?

At work...

Since October 2023 I have been working as a Senior Lecturer at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. I have been thinking about teaching career every now and then after I first did some substituting teaching in elementary school and high school before my IT studies, and I also did some lecturing after my studies before moving to Jyväskylä in 2008. I even updated my degree to M.Sc back then as an aim if I some day end up in teaching. And here I am now, opportunity came surprisingly and I made it, I'm now working with a team of excellent educators teaching the things I love. A dream come true, I would say!

2021 - 2023 I worked at Kansaneläkelaitos with healthcare IT systems in a more technical role, which seems to suited me very well. I loved it, responsible work in a field affecting a lot of peoples lives, but then I got an opportunity I could not pass...

2019 - 2021 I was developing client services in the role of Service Manager at a company called Woolman Oy. They're on the field of eCommerce. Simply put, I was helping to build success for our clients when they want to get better in their business on the net. My main part in this was making sure our support for our clients was what had been promised (and even a bit better). Communicating with our team and especially with the clients was the key here, but I also got my hands dirty with our weapon of choice Shopify, integrations and apps we were developing for the platform! Also working with improving documentation, agreements, processes, practices, support tasks... Whatever needed my help and expertize, I was there.

2011 - 2019 I was a Service Manager and Team Lead at Solteq Oyj. I managed a global 24/5 B2B e-business platform application management service and lead the team providing the service and development to the platform in Jyväskylä as a kind of a line manager. The customer I work with operates on all continents and several different time zones. Our distributed service team is located partially in Jyväskylä, Finland and partially in Wrocław, Poland. My task is to work with the customer directly and make sure the team has everything in order so they can operate on the best possible level at all times.

As a hobby...

My background is quite hands-on technical. I like to stay in touch with what the team does in practice to understand the day-to-day issues they face in all my roles, previous and current. So, in part due to that on my free time I try to investigate different products and things related to my work. I've also done a few web projects, some with graphic desing as well (although by no means I'm not considering myself as a graphic designer). I'm an engineer finding best ways to work and get things done with minimal fuzz.
